In a report today, the government is axing ASBOs. But I want to know if that is either a very good idea, or a very bad one. Because tearaways are treating them as a badge of honour rather than a punishment. And what's the effect? They still haunt the streets at night, causing mischief. I've seen it, experienced it, even.
And that's the point. If these badges aren't solving the problem, then it SHOULD be scrapped. Otherwise it's simply a waste of tax-payers money.
The new scheme will axe ASBOs, and instead punish the little soap-dodgers by taking away their personal items. Anti-social behaviour may get better, or it could get worse. But who knows? It needs a trial, at least.
